An evening of original poetry.

Kansas City, MO - infoZine - Anastacia (Stacey) Tolbert is a writer, Cave Canem Fellow, journalist, fifth grade teacher at Seattle Girls School, ACT’s Young Playwrights Teaching Artist, workshop facilitator, and playwright living in Seattle, Washington. She is author of the poetry book Baring My Soul, and the recipient of the 2004 San Diego Journalism Press Club Award for the article “War Torn.” She is writer, co-director, and co-producer of GOTBREAST (2007), a documentary about the views of women regarding breast and body image. Her poetry, fiction, and nonfiction have been published in Alehouse Journal, Period, The Drunken Boat, Torch, Cave XI, Clamor Magazine, Check the Rhyme, an anthology of female poets and emcees (nominated for the 2007 NAACP Award), I Woke Up and Put My Crown On: 76 Voices of African American Women, Essence, Number One, Timbooktu, Present Magazine, Chicken Bones Journal, The Nubian Chronicles, Hair Piece Anthology, San Diego City Beat, The Pitch Weekly, and The Source Magazine.

Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg is Poet Laureate of Kansas and the author of ten books in print or forthcoming, including her new collection of poetry, Landed, and her forthcoming memoir, The Sky Begins at Your Feet. She teaches and leads writing workshops for many populations, including writing and singing workshops with singer Kelley Hunt. Other titles include two edited works, My Tree Called Life: Writing and Living Through Serious Illness and The Power of Words (with Janet Tallman); Sandra Cisneros: Latina Writer and Activist; Animals in the House; Write Where You Are; Circle of Women, Circle of Words; Reading the Body; and Lot’s Wife.
