Bingham-Waggoner Estate, 313 W. Pacific.
Over a hundred and thirty vendors from a four state area display antiques and crafts on the grounds of the historic Bingham-Waggoner Estate, which sits right along the Santa Fe Trail west. Live music and entertainment, plus food for sale.

August 8-24 "Fall Classic"
Multiple educational events to help hunters prepare for the fall hunting season. Many of the workshops and seminars are free. Classes include instruction on deer management, turkey hunting, dutch oven cooking, and other skills. The "Outdoor University", to be held August 15-16, is also free. It will feature five classes on camp fire cooking, fall fishing, hunting tactics and other topics. "Women in the Outdoors" retreat, set for August 22-24, will include a fashion show, live music, food, games and prizes on Friday ($10) with all day workshops on Saturday ($45) on basic hand guns, rock wall climbing, fly fishing, dutch oven cooking, photography and other topics. Advance registration is required for all classes and events. Specials sales during the three weeks are also planned.

August 29-Sept 1 Santa-Cali-Gon Festival
One of the largest Labor Day festivals in the Midwest honors the Santa Fe, California and Oregon trails, all which used Independence as a "jumping off" point. Attracts 225,000 annually. Food, free concerts, (featuring nationally known country music and western groups), craft tents, carnival, historic re-enactors, contests and local entertainment. Independence Square , 112 W. Lexington .
