Bicyclists can get geared up for the Corps of Discovery bicentennial by taking part in the Katy Trail Ride 2004, June 21-25. The ride includes the nation's longest non-motorized section of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.

Jefferson City, MO, - Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri State Parks Foundation, this 225-mile bicycle ride on the scenic and historic Katy Trail State Park will begin in St. Charles and end in Clinton. The ride includes 154 miles along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail between St. Charles and Boonville. Daily mileage ranges from 36 to 68 miles. Along the route, which is the nation's longest developed rail trail, riders can experience the scenic countryside and visit the many interesting small communities.

Participation is limited to 300 people and the deadline for registration is June 4. The registration fee includes breakfast and dinner daily, outdoor camping spaces each night, portable hot showers, supply shuttle, sag support, and a Katy Trail Ride 2004 t-shirt and water bottle. Advance transportation from Clinton to St. Charles on June 20 or return transportation on June 25 will be available. Round-trip transportation from Columbia to St. Charles on June 20 and Clinton to Columbia on June 25 is available for an additional fee. Day trips are available for bicyclists that would like to participate in this scenic ride but do not have five days to spare.
