International Walk-to-School Day
This is the largest number of schools since the region began participating in the event in 2003. Approximately 7,500 students and parents are anticipated to participate.
"The idea behind Walk-to-School Day is for communities to support youth by walking to school together with a purpose - to promote health, safety, physical activity and concern for the environment, said Aaron Bartlett, bicycle/pedestrian planner for Mid-America Regional Council.
Students, parents and teachers from the following elementary schools: Lee's Summit, Liberty Oaks, Shoal Creek, Christ The King Parish School, Spring Valley, Bonner Springs, Brookwood, Indian Valley, Trailwood, Belinder, Broken Arrow, Prairie, Gardner, Rushton, Sunset Hill, Quail Run, Bluejacket-Flint, Cordley, Dorothy Moody, Christa McAuliffe, and Raytown South Middle School will walk to school on October 4 to show their commitment to improving student health and safety.
