_Bira_ pronounced Bee - Ru (as in ru-n), is a Shona word meaning celebration, with overtones of gathering lots of people together to share food, drink, music, song and dance, laughter, sadness and stories. Much of Zimbabwe's Theatre is just that, a celebration in overcoming tremendous odds. Shona is one of three main languages in Zimbabwe, the other two being English and Ndebele.
